girls brigade

The 5th Greenock Company of the Girl’s Brigade is based at The Mount Kirk and is overseen by the Kirk Session.

The Girl’s Brigade vision as quoted from their official website is…

“Girls' Brigade is a worldwide Christian organisation for girls and women. Our aim is to help and encourage girls to a Christian commitment. It is our desire to create a caring environment which encourages the development of individual talents and seeks to meet the needs of each member.

Girls' Brigade provides constructive programmes to cater for girls from Primary 1 to Secondary 6, with the older girls having opportunities of leadership training and service to church and community.

Leaders in Girls' Brigade are volunteers from local Churches. These volunteers are trained by Girls' Brigade and appointed by the respective Church to which the group belongs.

Girls' Brigade is very often the only contact that some girls have with the Church. There are opportunities to make contact with the wider family through special events and services, all of these open up avenues to reach young people for Christ. “

We have a very active company of around 50 girls in three company sections.
All three groups meet on a Wednesday evening at The Mount Kirk.

The company runs during term time from August through to the end of April each year. The girls come to The Mount Kirk for their joint parade Sunday with the Boy’s Brigade at the end of April and for Remembrance Sunday in November.
