community cell groups The early church in the book of Acts met in one another’s homes for fellowship, teaching and outreach. At the Mount Kirk we have recently started small groups which meet at various places around Greenock. Our vision is to see many more groups meeting around the town in various places and times. They are open to anyone to come along to, believers and non-believers, church members and non-members. No one is required to speak if they do not want to. You can just come and listen if you wish. At the moment we have two groups that meet most of the year except during holiday times: Tuesdays @ 11am – Church Hall Thursdays @ 7.30pm – at the manse Tel. 01475 722338 for more information or if you would like to come along. We have called these groups Community Cell Groups, because they have many features of a biological cell :- The features of a cell:- 1) They grow and multiply 2) They are small and efficient 3) They co-operate and serve 4) They need each other to function properly 5) They share the same ingredients 6) They grow and multiply Community Cell Groups at the Mount Kirk have five values which we seek for every group. Cell Values: All involved Becoming disciples Creating community Doing evangelism Encountering God A typical meeting will last between 1-1.5 hours and follows the pattern below:- Welcome – cup of tea/coffee and usually an icebreaker question to get us started Worship – a time of worship, which may involve reading from the scriptures, prayer and sometimes, but not always singing a couple of songs of praise. It is also an opportunity to make room for the gifts of the Holy Spirit to operate. Word – applying God’s Word to our lives. Most of the year this follows the passage of scripture the minister is preaching the previous Sunday, but at other times will follow other topics. Witness – this part of the evening helps us to keep outward focussed. We may pray for those we wish to see come to Christ. We also plan for future social nights or if a member of the group needs specific prayer for something, the group will pray for that person. |
