our NCD journey

In 2006 the new minister introduced NCD to the Kirk Session and it was agreed to commit to it over at least five years as a medium to long term strategy.

In November of 2006 we undertook our first survey, and the results came back as shown below. We also used a ProfilePlus report to give us extra information to assess what needed to be done.

Results came back showing that our weakest area was in small groups and our next weakest area was in evangelism. We therefore took a decision to run the Christianity Explored course on a regular basis as part of our evangelism strategy and start home cell groups.

We then did another survey about a year later at the end of 2007, and our results came back showing improvements in every area but one, ‘Passionate Spirituality’. It was encouraging to see that the ministries we had put in place earlier in the year had a profound affect on the church. What was surprising was the way in which we seemed to improve in areas we weren’t giving special attention to!

As a result of our 2007 survey, we realised that ‘Passionate Spirituality’ would need to be our focus for this coming year. We formed a small focus group to try and find out why we scored so low in this particular area.

As a result, we are putting in place the following things to encourage our congregation to grow in their spiritual lives:

Ø personal bible reading and study through bible notes

Ø printing the bible reading for the following Sunday’s sermon

Ø printing Robert Murray McCheyne daily bible reading guide in church notices

Ø encourage private prayer

Ø provide more opportunities for corporate prayer

Ø opportunities for people to submit prayer requests for our prayer meeting

Ø preaching on authority of God’s word

Ø preaching on prayer

Ø preaching on how God is interested in our daily work, families and how we can serve God in the places we live

Ø encourage people to join a community cell group

Ø multiply our community cell groups
