who we are We are a congregation of the Church of Scotland, which means that we are Reformed in doctrine and Presbyterian in our government. In a nutshell, that means that our roots are in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, but we also acknowledge our roots in the medieval church, Celtic church of Columba and Ninian. We hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith as a helpful statement of belief. But ultimately, our primary rule for faith and life is the Bible, the Christian scriptures. We are also a community of God’s people in Greenock who meet each week to worship our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and want to make him known in our community. In our worship services we use the latest technology to project notices and hymns on to a screen and sometimes use video clips. But we try and have a balance between traditional and modern styles of worship. The approach of our minister is both evangelical and charismatic, in that systematic expository preaching of the Bible is the norm in most services. But there is also an emphasis on ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit, and believers are encouraged to discover and use the spiritual gifts that God has given them for the building up of the church. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in California wrote a book called ‘The Purpose Driven Church’. He sets out five purposes of the church from the scriptures. We have found this helpful for our focus too, and want to be a church that is growing… Warmer through Fellowship Deeper through Discipleship Stronger through Worship Broader through Ministry Larger through Evangelism If you would like to find out more about our church, then why not speak to one of our elders or have a word with the minister after Sunday worship.
